Parental Allowance (Plus) and Paternity Leave

Parental Leave:

Employed mothers and fathers are entitled to paternity leave. Parents are entitled until the child reaches the age of three. Parental leave can be taken in any employment contract. For the fixed-term contracts of scientific staff, the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz ((WissZeitVG) German law on fixed-term contracts in Academia) applies. For projects with external funding, the contract between the external investor and TU Clausthal applies.

In accordance with § 2 subpara 1 sentence 3 Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG), and sentences 1 and 2 “the total time period of the fixed-term contract extends by two years per child for the care of every child younger than 18 years“. For projects with external funding, it must be examined whether the contract period can be extended. This is usually determined in the respective contract. The employer must be informed about the parental leave at least seven weeks before ist beginn (before birth, the estimated due date is considered). In order to do so, please use the  Application Form for Parental Leave at TU Clausthal.

Parental Allowance:

All important information on parental leave and parental allowance were summed up in the brochures of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and can be found on the homepage on parental allowance plus by the Federal Ministry. We would also be happy to hand out a printed copy to you at the Family Services Office.
