2nd Quarter

Reporting period 01 April - 30 June 2023

Equal Opportunities

  • The current round of the WiMINToring mentoring programme for female researchers has already reached the halfway point. To mark the occasion, an event was held last Friday, 16 June 2023, to evaluate the developments in the mentoring programme to date for both mentors and mentees. The feedback so far has been very positive and the mentoring relationships have developed successfully. The last item on the programme before the summer break was the workshop on career planning for our mentees.
  • The second annual meeting of our women's network "Women&Science at Clausthal University of Technology" took place on the last weekend in June.  The annual meeting kicked off on 30 June 2023 with a networking evening on the topic of "Equal opportunities in a career with children". Ms Schenk-Mathes gave the welcoming address and the members of the network presented the activities and developments of the past year. On the second day, 1 July 2023, further programme items took place, including board elections and a workshop on confident public speaking. The press release for this event can be found here.
  • On 21 April 2023, the WomenPower career congress for women took place for the 20th time as part of HANNOVER MESSE. In addition to the programme of lectures, panel discussions and workshops, the accompanying exhibition offers the opportunity to find out about career prospects, studies, coaching and mentoring offers as well as other labour policy topics and trends in the STEM sector. TU Clausthal once again distributed free tickets to the WomenPower Career Congress to interested female students this year. This year, Clausthal University of Technology had a stand at the fair for the first time to promote our university and, in particular, our degree programmes.
  • This year's Girls' Day and Boys' Day (Girls' and Boys' Future Day) took place on 27 April 2023. This is a good opportunity to arouse pupils' interest in STEM degree programmes and to promote Clausthal University of Technology. Clausthal University of Technology has regularly taken part in this nationwide event since 2002. Once again this year, numerous institutes and facilities at Clausthal University of Technology took part in this day of action. Our university prepared 12 offers with around 80 places and the marketing coordinator, Ms Wruck, together with the RZ team, made video recordings of various projects (including the Clausthal Centre for Materials Technology, the University Library, the Research Centre for Energy Storage Technologies and the Institute of Chemical and Electrochemical Process Engineering) for Girls'Day and Boys'Day. The video with impressions of this year's Girl's and Boy's Day at TU Clausthal can be found under this link.
  • On Friday, 12 May 2023, a practical workshop was held for our female students on the topic of "Confronting sexism with confidence and communicating sexual transgressions". This workshop provided practical impulses for individual options for action against sexism in everyday life. The participants learned not only how to stand up to inappropriate behaviour, boundary violations and assaults, but also how to prevent them.  The response was good and we plan to offer the workshop regularly once a year.
  • This year, the Goslar District Sports Association, in cooperation with the equal opportunities offices of Clausthal University of Technology, the district of Goslar and the mountain and university town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld, organised a women's sports day, which took place for the third time on the sports grounds of Clausthal University of Technology. The event took place on Friday, 9 June 2023 and all women from the university and the region were cordially invited. It was a very enjoyable afternoon with almost 50 participants and a colourful range of sports and health activities.
  • This year's Health Day took place on 15 June 2023 under the motto "We BACK TOGETHER!". The Equal Opportunities Office took part by offering advice on the topic of "Ergonomics in the workplace", among other things.
  • The programme for female professors is the central instrument of the federal and state governments to promote gender equality at universities. The aim of the funding programme is to dynamically increase the number of female academics in top positions in the field of science towards parity. After analysing the upcoming appointments, we have decided that it makes the most sense for our university to apply for the second call of the Women Professors Programme.

Diversity Management

  • The International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Inter- and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT for short) has been celebrated every year on 17 May since 2005 to demand respect and tolerance for the diversity of people in areas of sexual orientation or gender identity worldwide. TU Clausthal took part in this day of action again this year. The queer community in the Oberharz organised an open-air concert on the market square and Ms Schenk-Mathes gave the welcoming address as Executive President. The market church was illuminated in rainbow colours and the main building of Clausthal University of Technology and other masts on campus were decorated with rainbow flags.
  • German Diversity Day took place on 23 May 2023. TU Clausthal is once again taking part in this day of action. We once again set an example for diversity and, as in previous years, had a diversity-related slider displayed on the main page of the university website.

Diversity Management

  • Since 1 June 2023, the coordination position in the Family Service has been filled by Ms Kirsten Wiemker. Ms Wiemker is the previous coordinator of the Lower Saxony Technical Centre. This position was advertised for a limited period until 29 February 2024.
  • The sponsorship award for outstanding academic or student achievements during the family phase has been announced again, the call for applications has gone out to all employees and students by e-mail. Proposals (informal application, details of the challenging family situation, description of the special academic achievements) can be submitted until 15 August 2023 and we look forward to receiving as many applications as possible. The sponsorship award is endowed with prize money of 1,000.00 euros.
  • As part of our project "Expansion of the family-friendly infrastructure at Clausthal University of Technology", which is funded by the DFG equal opportunities funds of Prof. Turek's FOR 2397-2, the toilets in as many buildings on our campus as possible are to be equipped with nappy-changing tables. The locations of the nappy-changing tables are to be placed on the campus map. A request was sent to the heads of the institutes and research centres in this regard and we have already received a lot of feedback.
  • During the summer holidays, two weeks of holiday care, the so-called Children's Summer University, will be offered as planned. These are always the two full weeks at the edge of the Lower Saxony school holidays. The first week runs from 10 to 14 July 2023 and the second week from 7 to 11 August 2023.
  • There has been a change of staff at the "Uni-Mäuse" daycare centre. On 30 June 2023, we said goodbye to the two previous day carers Angela Perschke and Janine Bartsch. We would like to thank them for their many years of service! With the support of the district of Goslar, we were able to recruit two experienced childminders to succeed them: Manuela Meierdierks and Michael Molitor, who will ensure a seamless transition for childcare during the holiday period. The two new childminders will officially start at the Uni-Mäusen on 15 August 2023, meaning that eight children can be looked after there again.
